A Word With Max

How did you first get the motor racing bug?
Max: When I was 9 years old, my brother started a series called T Cars - car racing - and I wanted to have a go. The only thing I was allowed to do though was karting, and it all started there.

What are your career highlights so far?
Max: Winning at the British F3 race in 2009 at Brands Hatch, which is my home circuit. Followed by winning two races in GP2 this year and with the same team that I won my first F3 race with - Carlin. That’s nice.

What personality trait would people find most surprising about you?
Max: I don’t know if it’s surprising, but I’m super-organised and tidy, which I guess is unusual for a guy of my age (21 years).

What star sign are you and what does it say about you?
Max: Well I was born on April 21st but I have no idea what that is and I’m not really into that stuff.

You are clearly very fit. Do you find it hard to be so regimented?
Max: I would say I’m quite disciplined because that’s just my way, but as is the case with everyone, it’s nicer when the weather is good!

Favourite kind of Music?
Max: I’m not someone who’ll reel off a big list of bands I listen to non-stop. I love my singles mix on my iPod and it’s a bit of current stuff with some old classics.

Ideal off-duty weekend?
Max: Sadly, I like to get up on a Saturday and go for a big cross-country run, but then followed by a round of golf and a nice meal in the evening with friends and family, sometimes both. Sundays are for a nice Sunday Roast with my girlfriend.

Favourite colour?
Max: Blue. Back to that sunny days thing again.

Favourite holiday destination?
Max: Cornwall. I love water-skiing and chilling out on the water having fun with my mates.

Favourite movie?
Max: I like action movies and comedies. If you want a favourite, I’d have to say Cool Runnings.
